The more videos of the new Porsche GT3 RS I see the more I want one. So I went out and got a 2001 Boxster…… with “No compression in half the cylinders.” Arguably the worst engine Porsche has ever produced. See why. Lets get it back on the road!

After tearing off the passenger side head and checking the IMS bearing the issue was very apparent. The 2 out of the 10 timing chains snaped. Leading to bent valves. All of the plastic guides are almost worn out so I guess this was the best out come.
I picked up a used engine head, new timing chains, guides, tensioners, gaskets and began reassembly. Unfortunately the last owner skipped his maintenance intervals.
This raises a question. Was rebuilding this engine any cheaper then just buying a working used one? No, it was not. So why do it then?
Because we do things once and we do them right! These are all maintenance items that would need to be done on the new to us used engine. So if we want to enjoy it and prevent the same fate for future owners this needs to be done.
